The History of Charlie’s Place

Charlie’s Place….. A wonderful family restaurant located in Buzzards Bay, Ma. I would like to tell you a little bit of the history of this establishment. Charlie and Harry Nickolaow, under the watchful eye of Nick Nickolaow, their father, opened this restaurant in 1973…. but I am getting ahead of myself…..let me go back to 1947 when Nick purchased and opened the Cape Cod Cafe in Brockton, MA, a place, that to this day is still in operation. Between his hard work and culinary talents the “Cod”, or the “Store” as it was affectionately called by the crew, became one of Brockton’s favorite eatery’s and legendary for Nick’s own delicious recipe for “bar pizza”.. Nick Nickolaow owned and operated the Cape Cod Cafe from 1947 until 1972 when he “retired” to Buzzards Bay. Where he started it all over again with Charlie’s Place!! Enter Helen, wife of Nick, mother of the “boys”. With her charm and wit, Helen was certainly a part of the success this restaurant has enjoyed for 50 years, count ‘em, 50 years!!

(The restaurant’s 50th anniversary is this year in May 2023)

Fast forward to 2022 Charlie’s Place now boasts an extensive menu of the same pizza recipe from Nick that made “bar pizza” famous along with delicious appetizers, dinners, seafood, homemade desserts and of course a full bar with awesome martinis!! The “take-out” area has hardly missed a day of operation, even during those awful days of Covid. A testament to the family oriented atmosphere of Charlie’s would be the same employees still working there after forty-five years!!!

One big change as we all know can happen is that the restaurant is now being run very successfully by Harry; as Charlie passed six years ago.
In conclusion, not much else to say except that  it seems when you mix hard working  parents and employees, two loving brothers, a great pizza recipe and people who appreciate and enjoy those things you get a wonderful family restaurant named “Charlie’s Place”.
